Pucker up! Where to kiss in Minneapolis
By Carla Waldemar
Ever hear the saying, “Cold
nose, warm heart”? It probably
originated in Minneapolis. We take advantage of our snowy winters to
do our share of snuggling, so we’ve become resourceful when it comes
to romance. Here’s an insider’s passionate listing of the best
places to kiss.
The curvaceous Spoon and Cherry in the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden is
where lovers love to spoon. Strolling arm in arm through the rest of the
garden’s nooks isn’t a bad idea, either.
Snuggling under a blanket during a horse and buggy ride around Nicollet
Island is an ultra-romantic pastime, especially when the city lights come
on after dark. Or lace up your skates for a waltz around the rink at Lake
of the Isles.
Warm up later at Wilde Roast, a Victorian-style coffeehouse/wine bar, sharing
a sofa in front of the flickering fire. Or head to The Local, a lively downtown
Irish pub, complete with “snugs,” as the folks in Eire call
the tiny private rooms around the bar. Or flirt behind the gauzy curtains
of the kissing booths at Louis XIII restaurant.
Music lovers, as well as lovers in general, find a chance to steal a kiss
between numbers seated in the boxes of Orchestra Hall. Afterwards, they
often repair to the new La Belle Vie, not far away, for a tête-à-tête
in the chic lounge and maybe linger for a bite of dinner. And nothing’s
more romantic than sitting side by side in the cozy little trattoria called
Pane Vino Dolce at sundown, when the staff ceremoniously lowers the chandelier
to light its candles.
But the ultimate place to kiss may be at Tiffany’s in the Galleria
Shopping Center, where they’re prepared to supply the champagne to
go with an engagement ring. Carla Waldemar is a freelance writer who lives in the Minneapolis
