Riverfront Tour
|
The beauty and sophistication of Minneapolis is augmented by its striking seasonal variety. From hot summer days to
brisk winter evenings, here are some tips to fill your suitcase with the right gear.
Summer
(June through August): Along with heat, humidity is high, so bring comfortable, breathable clothes. Shorts and sandals
are standard – especially near the lakes and the river. Area beaches offer swimming and sunbathing, so don't forget
the swimsuit, beach towel and shades.
And bring your running shoes. Minneapolis was named the second best
city for running by Runner's World, and one
of the most walkable cities in the nation by PBS.
Fall
(September through mid-November): One of the most beautiful times in Minneapolis, the air begins to get crisp. Enjoy fall
colors and outdoor activities by packing a windbreaker and hat. Fall also calls for tucking an umbrella in your bag.
Don't miss a stroll in the Riverfront District during fall. The colors are fantastic and the days linger into beautiful
evenings.
Winter
(Mid-November through March): Snow and cold are the weather words, so bring a heavy coat, gloves, hat, scarf and boots.
If you're a real "snow bunny," add snow pants to the list so you can enjoy numerous ski areas.
Alert! Minneapolis does not shut down in winter. The lakes are alive with skaters and skiers hit the slopes. Downtown
is alive with shoppers and diners. Winter in Minneapolis can be the most beautiful time of year.
Spring
(March through May): Winter-type weather can stretch into spring in Minneapolis, so a heavy jacket is a must. And grab
that umbrella, because showers abound. But when the sun peaks through and suggests the summer weather to come, the city
simply bursts to life.
